Dot Day
Project: As a class we read the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. This is a story about a little girl named Vashti, and she thinks that she cannot draw but her teacher convinces her to draw a dot on her paper. After she draws that singular dot, her teacher frames her work and gives Vashti the confidence try different techniques to make more dots. After reading the book, we then created our own unique dot using coffee filters, markers, sharpies, crayons, oil pastels, and watercolors. All we needed to do was use the art supplies that color our coffee filter and use water and the watercolors to make our markings bleed and create a unique design on our filters. Extension Activity: An extension activity that you could include into your language arts class could be to have the class do a character reflection.
