3D Art

Description: For this project we were creating a 3D popup art scene with a partner. We started the lesson by learning some of the vocabulary that was important to know when creating our project. With our partner, we chose a background scene that we were going to create on our construction paper. We then each chose one character that each partner would create for the scene. Our scene was underwater, my partners character was a lego piece, and mine was a watermelon. Once we got our characters and scenes, we then decided on a construction paper color and folded it in half. Next we drew on our paper where we were going to cut out the popup pieces for our characters. We then got to design our background; me and my partner did some underwater greenery, 2 fish, a turtle, and a starfish. We then each created our own characters with more construction paper. Clay Mosaic Tiles

Description: For this project, we talked about the history of Mosaic clay tiles, including the origin and development of techniques used to create tiles. We also talked about different methods and techniques when working with air dry clay. Before the students created their clay tile, they needed to brian storm and draw out their ideas for their tiles of what represented them. The teachers then demonstrated each of the techniques and what would be required when creating your own clay tile. The techniques discussed and modeled were, wedging, rolling, slip and scoring, adding clay, and subtracting clay.  They then got to wedge their own clay and roll out their slabs, then they took their clay tile template they drew on and used it to cut out a square tile. They then used the different methods and techniques to create their tiles representing themselves. Printmaking Ornaments

  Description: For this project we learned about the history of printmaking and the tools that go into making prints. For this project we created Christmas ornaments. We started by sketching two different ornament designs that related/represented us and tell why we chose those designs. I chose to draw a camper because it is my favorite thing to do in the summer with my family and my other design was flowers because I really enjoy flowers. I chose to make my ornament the camper design. We started by drawing our final design on a piece of paper, then we took a piece of styrofoam and put our drawing on top of it and traced our drawing to transfer it to the styrofoam. It was important for us trace the drawing pretty firmly to make sure that it was indented into the styrofoam enough that it would transfer correctly. Snow Flakes

Description: For this activity we talked a little about what snow flakes are and how each one is unique. We followed the teachers snow flake designs before we created our own. The top two snow flakes are the teachers designs that we followed, and the bottom middle one is our own snow flake that we were able to design on our own. After making our snow flakes we glued them to the paper and then we used the glue bottles to create lines and designs on our snow flakes. Then we put salt all over the glue to create a textured frozen look. After we put the salt on our snow flake we used water colors to add color to the salt. We then observed everyones snowflake and we had to write three things that we noticed about the different methods or design elements that people used to create their snow flakes. Extension Activity: An extension activity you could use for this project is taking a deeper look at how snowflakes form and taking a closer look at snowflakes and the differences in their designs....

Stained Glass Turkeys

  Description: For this activity we looked at what stain glass is. To create our turkey, we use painter's tape to make the head of the turkey, they we used the thicker tape to make the feathers of the turkey. We then used a skinnier tape roll to make the different sections in each of the feathers. We then started to paint our turkey feathers. We needed to have 2 primary colors, two tints, and two secondary colors. For my primary colors I did red, blue, and yellow, my secondary colors were orange and green, and my tints were light green, light blue. I also included other colors like brown and pink. Extension Activity: An extension activity could include a history lesson on stained glass windows. The students could research different stained glass window techniques throughout the years and provide an overview of how they have changed and evolved.

Zentangle Pumpkin

Description: After a short discussion on what zentangle patterns are and looking at some examples, we practicing creating our own zentangle patterns. We needed to create a pattern that represents who we are and one that is fall themed. We then moved on to creating our pumpkin outline and followed the steps of the teacher while she demonstrated each step. When it came to putting patterns on our pumpkin drawing we needed to include 3 different fall themed zentangle patterns and 3 personal patterns that represented us. For my fall themes, I chose leaves, blue lines for wind, and ghosts. For my personal themes, I chose dog prints, books, and stars. Extension Activity: An extension activity could include having the students write about the different patterns that they chose to include and why. You can have the students write about how their personal patterns they chose represent who they are. You could also display the students art to create a class pumpkin patch of all their personal zenta...

Van Gogh Inspired Collage

Description: For this activity we learned about Van Gogh and his life and art. We looked into his methods when creating art. We then started creating our Van Gogh inspired collages. To make these collages we used tissue paper pieces and a clear drying paint to stick the tissue paper on black construction paper. After were put the background on our base, we then had to draw Van Gogh inspired lines/patterns onto our paper. We used oil pastels for this, and I choose to do a circular pattern to make the background look like a sunset. We then used another piece of construction paper to draw a silhouette of something and glued that to our background.  Extension Activity: You can create a writing extension activity where the students need to writing a story that goes along with their collage. They will need to include all the elements of a story and a big focus will be creating the setting that relates to their collage.
